Knitting, music, sculpting, painting, blueprints, fashion design, architecture… the list could go on and on.  Our creativity has shown up in cell phones, cars, computers, amazing homes, etc.

In some way, shape or form, all of us have some expression of creativity.

I sat down with my daughter the other day.  She had a bunch of Lego creations in her room, but not many Lego pieces were left.  Each one of her creations was precious in her sight and very valuable.

There were a few little pieces left lying around, so I started working with those, not really with an end in mind, just being creative.

We talked about whether it is more fun to build something new or look at the ones you already have. So some she decided to keep, others she decided to take apart and together, we added piece by piece to our new creation.

By the end, we had built a new building that had a patio, swing, slide, carport, pictures on the walls, climbing wall, and kitchen. She was quite excited about it and, in our creative minds at least, it was amazing.

The Bible talks about and uses the imagery of the potter and the clay… God shaping and moulding our lives.

In Genesis 2:7, when God forms humanity from a handful of soil and then in Isaiah 29:16, Isaiah 45:9, Isaiah 64:8, Jeremiah 18:1-10, Romans 9:14-21, and 2 Corinthians 4:7 it speaks of the Potter forming the clay as He wishes.

It also speaks of the frailty of pottery in verses like Isaiah 41:25; Isaiah 30:14; Jeremiah 19:1 &11, Psalms 2:9, and Revelation 2:27.

God’s creative image is stamped on each of us. In the big picture, we create the lives we live in many ways.

In the even bigger picture, God desires to sculpt and mould our lives, which works best when we surrender to his sculpting hands.

My prayer today is that we would allow God to build and shape our lives in ways that will be lasting and meaningful.

If you have the time, The Skit’s Guys have a very creative video you can preview, which pulls out many of these thoughts on how God chisels our lives to, as it says in Ephesians 2:10, shape us into God’s workmanship, His masterpiece, like pottery, His creation.
