“I once was lost but now I’m found,” – lyrics in the well-known hymn Amazing Grace.  “I was lost.”

I remember moving to Edmonton years ago before the days of GPS.  It was the biggest city I’d ever lived in.

I would often get lost driving or in the West Edmonton Mall and not be able to find my way out or back to my car in the parking lot. Then I would find my way to somewhere familiar and eventually I got to know the city pretty well.

Being lost requires looking around to try and find something that looks familiar.

But what if you can’t find anything familiar?

What if you are so lost that it requires a search party to find you?

Do we find God or does He find us?

Yes!

We find God… Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

God also finds us. In Acts 22:7 Paul says, “And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’ And I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ ”

God found him.

Either way, if you are lost and you find your way or someone finds you, it’s one of the greatest feelings in the world to know and say, “I once was lost but now I’m found!”
